Everything you need to know about using doXmind, the AI-powered writing assistant.
doXmind has three main areas. The Outline Sidebar (left) shows your document structure. The Editor (center) is where you write. The AI Chat (right) lets you interact with AI.
Create your first document: Click the + New Document button on the home dashboard, or use the Command Palette (Ctrl+K) and type "New Document".
Onboarding tour: When you first sign in, an interactive tour walks you through the key features. You can restart it anytime from the user menu β Restart Tour.
The home dashboard is your central hub for finding, creating, and managing documents. It features a dual-mode search bar, recent files, favorites, and quick actions.
The search bar at the top has two modes, toggled by the pill buttons on the left:
Ask AI mode (default): Type a question about your writing and press Enter. The AI searches across all your documents and returns an answer with source citations. You can ask follow-up questions in the answer card for a multi-turn conversation.
Search mode: Type to search documents by title or content. Results appear instantly as you type (300ms debounce). Each result shows a relevance score and a highlighted snippet matching your query.
Continue writing: Your 3 most recently edited documents appear at the top for quick access. Click any tile to open it in the editor.
Favorites: Star important documents by clicking the star icon in the file menu. Starred documents are pinned in a dedicated Favorites section on the dashboard.
Click the + button in the top-right corner of the file grid. A dropdown offers four options:
New Document
Creates a blank document and opens it in the editor.
New Folder
Creates a folder at the root level to organize files.
From Template
Pick from 4 templates: Welcome tutorial, Blank, Blog Post, or Meeting Notes.
Import File
Upload a PDF, DOCX, or Markdown file to convert into a document.
Hover over any file card (or tap the three-dot menu on mobile) to access actions:
Grid / List view: Toggle between card grid and compact list using the view icons in the top-right corner. On mobile, documents display as a horizontal swipeable carousel.
Sort: Click the sort icon to order files by name (AβZ / ZβA), modified date, or created date. Folders always appear first.
Drag & drop: Drag files onto folder cards to move them into that folder. Drag files to the "All Files" breadcrumb to move them back to the root.
The editor supports rich markdown with a what-you-see-is-what-you-get experience. Format text using the toolbar, keyboard shortcuts, or markdown syntax.
Headings: Three levels (H1βH3) via Ctrl+Alt+1 / 2 / 3, or type #, ##, ### followed by a space.
Lists: Bullet (Ctrl+Shift+8), Numbered (Ctrl+Shift+7), and Task lists (Ctrl+Shift+9) with checkboxes.
Code Blocks: Fenced with ```. Supports syntax highlighting with a language selector and line numbers.
Math Blocks: Inline math with $...$ and display math with $$...$$. Supports full LaTeX syntax.

Other blocks: Callouts (info, warning, error, success), Toggle/collapsible sections, Images (with resize handles), and Horizontal dividers.
